The act of mastering the keys, learning to hear tonal organization, integrating multiple forms of learning, all have positive effects on the brain for young and old alike. Problem solving, breaking the complexities of playing into small and easily manageable portions, enhances skills that serve us in all capacities. Saxophone lessons will alleviate the frustration of trying it on your own, or attempting to learn in a band environment with minimal personal attention. Students with successful high school music careers have a significant advantage when it’s time to submit college applications, their supplemental arts application sets them apart and demonstrates their ability to excel—relied on heavily by college admissions. The study of music is a never ending journey which enriches student’s lives far beyond their ability to play.

 Saxophone students are encouraged to perform

Students are encouraged to participate in public performance in order to develop their skills; students of Mr. Wilson have received accolades in local, regional and national solo festivals and honors groups. The Eastshore Region Solo and Ensemble Festival, Alto/Soprano Saxophone Solo Division, has been won by Mr. Wilsons’s students nine of the ten years between 2003 and 2012—several going on to place at the state finals. The state’s finest Concert Band, All-State Wind Ensemble 2012, featured two of Mr. Wilsons’s saxophone students out of four chosen in the state. The All-National Honor Band 2011 and also All-Northwest Honor Band 2011 featured one of Mr. Wilsons’s students as Principal Alto Saxophone. For students that choose to excel, Mr. Wilson has a long track record of producing some of the nation’s finest young saxophonists.

Andrew-Nelson-Gammage-AuditMr. Wilson’s students can be heard in the area’s school jazz ensembles and concert bands.Bellevue High School, Interlake High School (IHS), Newport High School, Lake Washington High School,Highland Middle School,Chinook Middle School, Odle Middle School, Kirkland Junior High School, International Community School (ICS) in Kirkland, International School in Bellevue, Issaquah High School and Issaquah Middle School have all featured Mr. Wilson’s students in their jazz ensemble saxophone sections and concert bands.

Mr. Wilson has coached his student’s school chamber music ensembles: the ICS Contrasts Trio, first place winners WMEA State Finals, Small Ensemble Division 2010, third place in 2008, and the IHS Saxophone Quartet,, first place winners WMEA State Finals, Woodwind Small Ensemble Division 2012. Mr. Wilson’s students have gone on to be accepted by colleges throughout the nation including: University of Washington Saxophone Performance Program, Berklee College of Music, University of North Texas Jazz Studies, and University of Montana Jazz Studies; others have cited their high school music success to garner acceptance into Carnegie Melon, Williams College, Amherst College and Western Washington University.
