Saxophone, Flute, & Clarinet instruction

Robert Wilson, founder of the Bellevue School of Music, draws on his extensive knowledge and love of music, along with many years of teaching experience, to create a stimulating environment for students.

Mr. Wilson works with students on creating good tone quality, and technique, while introducing them to the principals of music. He works patiently with students, encouraging them, and helping them to build self-esteem.

Mr. Wilson challenges his students with exciting pieces of music, and motivates them to stretch themselves and further their skills. His repertoire includes both jazz and classical.

Mr. Wilson works with students ranging from beginning through advanced. He accepts students on flute at 7 years, and students on clarinet and saxophone at 9 years. Some of his most successful students were once young beginners in the studio!

Mr. Wilson has taught private music lessons for over 23 years. His students have been widely recognized for their performing abilities. Mr. Wilson’s students have attended Master Classes throughout the nation, been accepted by the prestigious Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, many have won top honors at local festivals—winning their WMEA Solo/Ensemble divisions and going on to place at State Finals, and many have been accepted by All-Northwest and All-State ensembles. Summer 2009 Mr. Wilson’s most advanced Clarinetist will be performing at the Vianden International Music Festival in Luxembourg.

Before opening Bellevue School of Music, Mr. Wilson was Director of Music at Edmonds Cyberschool. At the Cyberschool he developed and administered a complete set of programs from private lessons, through Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. Mr. Wilson has also taught at Central Washington University, California State University at Long Beach, Citrus Community College and Rio Hondo Community College.

Mr. Wilson has done Graduate studies at Central Washington University. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, from California State University at Long Beach. Through the years Mr. Wilson has performed in Master classes with renowned musicians including: Julius Baker, Michelle Debost, and Louis Moyse. Mr. Wilson’s teachers include: John Barcellona, Bill Green, John Reilly and Bill Liston.

Mr. Wilson has over 36 years of performance experience. He has performed in over 40 musical theater productions, played in clubs in the Los Angeles area, and played lead alto in many professional big bands. Mr. Wilson has also contracted his own chamber music and jazz ensembles.

My son took lessons from Bellevue School of Music for several years. The qualifications of the teachers at BSM is very high. They are all accomplished and experienced professionals. Students are coached to a high level of success and more than a few win the WMEA All State music competitions, a highly competitive endeavor. I would highly recommend taking woodwind lessons from Robert Wilson for serious high school students who want to be leaders in their high school band programs.

My daughter has been taking Mr. Wilson’s flute lesson for more than 3 years since she was 8, and he is one of the best music teachers I ever met (I have been taking lessons for my instruments from many teachers). My daughter had so much progress since then and now she can play high school level tunes as 5th grader. It is also wonderful to be able to listen to the older students beautifully playing advanced tunes at the recitals. That is motivating my daughter so much lately. He is very patient, and absolutely knows how to teach young students so they can motivate themselves following the process at home and during the lessons. Learning music is about practice and the teacher in my opinion. I feel so lucky my daughter can take lessons from very experienced teacher.
